Local Marine Corps Detachment to Host Birthday Ball

Marine Corps Detachment #1270 will be hosting the Marine Corps Birthday Ball atSun Riverthis coming November 10, 2011.  The public is invited to attend. The Marine Corps League is an organization of former Marines (mostly) with many specific causes and missions.  The League is separated into Detachments and #1270 is right here inSaint George,Utah.  Locally, Detachment #1270 has several major programs that it either runs or supports.  These include the Marine Devil Pups Program, Toys for Tots, Wounded Warrior Program, assisted-living veteran visits, and highway cleanup.

The United States Marine Corps was founded in 1775 and it enjoys a proud, rich and storied 236 years of service to this country.  The Marines have been called to every war this country has ever been involved in, and thousands have given their lives for the freedoms of their generations.  Today, men and women of the Marine Corps fight in several foreign lands so that we can all sleep in peace at night.  It is for these reasons and more that the Marine Corps celebrate its anniversary every year on the same date that a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of the Continental Congress back in 1775.

This coming November 10th, Marine Corps Detachment #1270, also known as the Dixie Detachment, will hold our Birthday Ball at the Sun River community facility, and tickets are available to anyone who wishes to attend.  This prestigious event will commence at 6 PM and will include dinner, dancing, and many inspiring activities like the official reading of the Commandant’s November 10th letter, the official cutting and serving of a lavish birthday cake, a rousing reading of the Marine Corps Hymn complete with background slides, Marine Corps history trivia, and much more.  The theme for this year’s celebration is Then and Now. Dress is semi-formal to formal.  Tickets are very inexpensive at just $25.00 per person.

The Dixie Detachment is also looking for local businesses who wish to take advantage of an advertising opportunity in the events’ official program booklet.  Ads can be purchased very reasonably.  There is a cut-off date for advertising, so please get your commitment to us as soon as possible.
