Obituary for William “Bill” Powers

Madison

William “Bill” Powers, age 61, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1949, in Madison, the son of Charlie “Chuck” and Delores (Handel) Powers. Bill attended LaFollette High School, where he was an athlete and active on the basketball and wrestling teams. Shortly after high school, he joined the U.S. Army. Bill was in the military from 1969 until 1971, during the Vietnam conflict. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and gambling.

Bill is survived by his parents, Charlie “Chuck” and Delores; brothers, Gene (Sue) Powers of McFarland, and Bruce Powers of Madison; sister, Tammy Lynn E. Powers of Madison; nieces, Sydney, Ryan and Caitlin Powers; nephew, Derek Powers; life partner, Janice Bohn; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at noon on Saturday, May 28, 2011, with military rites being conducted, and Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

A special thank you the staffs at Veteran’s Hospital Hospice and Badger Prairie Health Care Center Hospice for the care they gave Bill, and also to Gunderson Funeral Home.
