SLC FISHER HOUSE OPENS – The Salt Lake City VA Healthcare System Fisher House opened its doors Jan. 9, 2012. The Fisher House Program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America’s military in their time of need. Because members of the military are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for care, Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes”, built on the grounds of major VA and Military Medical Centers. These homes enable family members to be close to loved ones during stressful times when the veteran is hospitalized for an unexpected illness, disease or injury. No Family pays to stay at a Fisher House.

VA ADDS MOBLIE VET CENTERS – Twenty (20) additional Mobile Vet Centers will be on the road to help increase counseling service access to veterans and their families residing in rural or underserved communities. Almost 200,000 veterans and their families made more than 1.3 million visits to a VA Vet Center during Fiscal 2011.

TWO KOREAN WAR MIAS IDENTIFIED  The Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office announced the identification of the remains belonging to Army Sgt. Willie D. Hill of Catawba, N.C. and Sgt. Joseph A. Bowen of Augusta, GA.

VA CHANGES EMRGENCY CARE POLICY – The new regulation extends VA’s

Authority to pay for emergency care provided to eligible veterans at non-VA facilities

until the veteran can be safely transported to a VA Medical facility. The regulation

applies to care for service-connected conditions and for non-service connected

conditions in certain circumstances. For information about emergency care in

non- VA facilities visit the <va.gov> website and find emergency care in Search.
