The Department of Defense has launched a new website to try to reduce the number of Americans fraudulently claiming to have been awarded medals by the military. The Department of Defense’s new U.S. Military Awards for Valor–Top 3 website is a response to the June ruling by the Supreme Court that the “Stolen Valor” law was unconstitutional. The new website compiles information about those who have received the military’s two highest awards for valor — Medals of Honor and Service Crosses — since Sept. 11, 2001. The Defense Department is also trying to compile information on Silver Star recipients, but no timetable has been given on when that might be completed.
