Fed Speeds up Health Record Integration

The Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs have announced that they will speed implementation of the Integrated Electronic Health Record program allowing service members and veteran’s better access and, more importantly, better medical care. The system is now expected to be deployed by the end of 2014. The goal is to provide one set of electronic records from entry into the military through veteran status. The program is designed to allow service members or veterans to download information and present it to doctors or other health care providers without delays. Previously, service members had to hand carry paper files from DoD facilities to Veterans Affairs. DoD and VA begin conducting a pilot program this summer.

Wanted:  Iraq and Afghanistan Era Veterans

There are roughly 8,000 US military veterans living in Washington/Iron County, Utah.  The vast majority of these vets are Vietnam era, but there are hundreds of veterans here who served in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.  However, your voices are not heard nearly as much as other veterans.  There are 2 organizations in Saint George that would love to be contacted by veterans of the “sandbox” wars:  The VA Vets Center which is located in the Dixie Commons on South Dixie Downs Road (435-673-4494); and Southern Utah Vets Aid, a non-profit volunteer group of veterans whose task it is to simply help other veterans (435-215-3090).  PLEASE, we want you to let us know who you are and what we can help you with.  Thank you.
