Event Celebrates Walmart’s Plan to Hire 100,000 Veterans over the Next Five Years


Walmart Stores Inc. on May 27, Memorial Day, announced the launch of a program through which it plans to hire more than 100,000 veterans nationwide over the next five years.  The Arkansas-based retailer will kick off the program, entitled “Veteran Welcome Home,” with a public event at the newly opened Utah Veterans Home in Ivins on Tuesday, July 2nd beginning at 9:00AM. 

Slated to speak at the event is Mayors Dan McArthur (St. George), Chris Hart (Ivins), and Ski Ingram a highly decorated and proactively patriotic Vietnam veteran, and words of Walmarts’ commitment to veterans by prominent Walmart executives and associates. The event will also feature a formal color guard performance by members of the American Legion Post #142 (Sun River) and a 20-gun salute executed by the Marine Corps League “Dixie” Detachment 1270.  Walmart will also provide food and refreshments at the event which will run until 1:00PM. 

The event is to announce to veterans that Walmart will offer a job to any honorably discharged veteran within his or her first 12 months off active duty, through its Veterans Welcome Home program. More information is at

The retailer’s charitable Walmart Foundation has committed $20 million through 2015 to help veterans and their families’ transition from the military into the civilian workforce, through programs that provide job training, education and related services.
